People who live on less than $2 a day spend as much as 30 percent of their incomes on energy, mostly on traditional fuels such as kerosene or fuel wood. Decentralised clean energy offers new possibilities, but the upfront costs are still too high for many. While microfinance is one viable solution, many financial institutions are still not aware of its potential. Nine financial service providers from Nepal gathered in Lucknow, India to find out.
