Summary

This video summarizes the main discussions of a consultation meeting on "A New Regional Financial Inclusion Program (FIP) in the ASEAN region" organized by the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (MRI) at the end of July 2013 in Bangkok. The consultation meeting brought together Southern Market Leaders in Financial Inclusion from different parts of the region to discuss UNCDF's plan to devise a Financial Inclusion Programme (FIP) for the ASEAN region. This document provides a summary of the discussions and a synthesis of key recommendations.

There was broad consensus among Leading market-leaders in financial inclusion that a regional programme such as FIP would be instrumental to accelerate financial inclusion in region. More specifically, the leaders called for a vision of doubling financial inclusion in the ASEAN region by 2020. This date has been chosen as it would provide a reasonable time-frame to contribute to the preparatory phase for achieving greater regional economic convergence and well as to sustain progress of these goals post-2015 with the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
