In this interview, Lhamu Gyeltshen, Deputy Head of Nawokhog Gewok, in Buli of the Zhemgang District, Bhutan, explains how he and local communities rehabilitated the main reservoir, bringing clean drinking water to the communities down below - making room for climate resilience through a bottom up scheme: LoCAL.
The LoCAL Programme aims to promote climate change resilient communities by increasing financing for and investment in Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) at the local level in the least developed countries (LDCs), thereby contributing to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly the specific goals of poverty reduction (MDG1) and environmental sustainability (MDG7). It does this by reinforcing local government financial delivery systems, with Performance Based Climate Resilient Grants.
