Summary

Local Econocast Episode 1

Evidence, Development and Local Policy Making

In recent years, we have seen an increasing trend towards evidence-based policymaking. While evidence provides rigorous inputs for policies, local governments are usually faced with political and administrative constraints when making evidence-based decisions. So how do we treat evidence? How can it be better incorporated into policymaking that promotes local economic development?

This episode features Andrew Norton, Director of International Institute for Environment and Development. With his extensive experience in the social dimensions of climate change, poverty, gender and social analysis, social policy and human rights, he will share his opinions on evidence-based policy making and local development.

In the second part of this episode, Abdalmughni Nofal, Regional Technical Advisor based in Ethiopia, will share his stories and perspectives in the development field.
