Summary

This module, ‘Client Protection Principles for Youth,’ provides a user-friendly guide to equip FSPs to apply The Smart Campaign’s client protection principles and the CYFI certi cation criteria to their products for young people. Through practical adult learning, trainees learn about the following principles, adapted by UNCDF-YouthStart, for use by FSPs o ering youth nancial services:

Client protection principles for youth:

  1. Avoiding over-indebtedness

  2. a Transparent pricing

  3. b Responsible pricing

  4. Appropriate collection practices

  5. Ethical staff behaviour

  6. Complaints handling and resolution

  7. Privacy of client data

  8. CYFI certification criteria

In particular, by the end of this training, trainees will have:

  • Assessed pricing of their youth products and ensured they are aligned with The Smart Campaign’s client protection principles and the CYFI certi cation criteria;

  • Revised their youth products’ promotion and sale processes to ensure they include The Smart Campaign’s client protection principles and the CYFI certi cation criteria;

  • Revised their account-opening processes and materials (e.g., application forms) to ensure alignment with The Smart Campaign’s client protection principles and the CYFI certi cation criteria;

  • Revised other procedures for all points of contact with youth clients (e.g., deposits, withdrawals, payments, complaints) and ensured alignment with The Smart Campaign’s client protection principles and the CYFI certi cation criteria; and

  • Developed an action plan to ensure that lessons and outcomes of the training are disseminated within participating FSPs and that The Smart Campaign and CYFI principles are applied throughout all points of contact with youth clients.

The sequence and broad structure of the training ensures participant engagement and provides practical tools and approaches for applying the content in the gure 'Workshop framework.'
