Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZamPost) is a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), mandated to provide postal, courier and financial services, and operate a Post Bank. ZamPost’s current financial services portfolio comprises of money transfers, tax collections, social cash transfers, salary and pension payments. The money transfers services include Western union, MoneyGram and ZamPost’s domestic money transfer service called SwiftCash

In the last year, approximately 56,000 people sent and received money through SwiftCash monthly. Furthermore, ZamPost has recently been contracted by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services to distribute social cash transfers across 27 districts to some 87,000 beneficiaries.

To improve its capacity to offer affordable and high quality financial services to Zambians, ZamPost has embarked on a journey to revamp its business strategy. With a footprint of 170 branches nationwide, including 97 branches in rural areas, ZamPost is in a unique position to be able to offer a wide range of digital financial services.

On Friday April 6, 2018, with the support of the MM4P program of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF MM4P), ZamPost officially kicked off a project aimed at diversifying its strategy and strengthening its capacity to compete effectively in the growing digital financial services ecosystem in Zambia.

This is exciting news for Zambian customers as this could potentially translate into increased access to affordable and accessible services offered by a provider with the widest reach in the country.
