In Senegal there are 300,000 young people who enter the labor market each year and less than10% of them are absorbed. Entrepreneurship can be an opportunity for these young people, if they have access to finance.
UNCDF launched a multi-stakeholders initiative in 2017 to promote both the employability and financial inclusion of young people living in semi-urban and rural areas. The objective was to deploy 150 kiosks managed by youth under a micro-franchise model, to distribute digital financial services. A pilot phase was implemented with ten young people.
This case study outlines lessons learnt during the pilot phase and is part of a series of publications addressing the global learning agenda of UNCDF.
