UNCDF in partnership with UNDP, the Government of Tanzania, and more recently NORAD, has been involved since 1997 in a Support to Decentralisation Programme in Mwanza Region (SDP), which is made up of the Rehabilitation and Maintenance of District and Feeder Roads project (DFR) and the Local Development Fund (LDF).

Both projects aim at promoting economic development and alleviating poverty in the six rural districts of the Mwanza region by strengthening the capacities of the local government authorities (LGAs) and empowering the rural communities through development planning.
