20.6 million euros have been dedicated to the GrEEn Project to boost job creation and build climate change resilient communities in Ashanti and Western regions
The GrEEn Project set to deliver thousands of jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for Ghanaians is launching in communities this month!
“GrEEn official lauched in the Ghanaian capital Accra earlier this year, but now it’s time to take news of GrEEn to the regions and communities that are going to benefit from this new action,” said Angela Yayra Kwashie UNCDF National Project Coordinator in Ghana. The GrEEn Project will be launched in both the Ashanti Region and the Western Region of Ghana on the 22th and 24th September respectively, to promote the innovative approaches and concrete opportunities that the project offers to youth, women and returnees. Members of local communities, authorities and stakeholders have been invited to take part in these events to understand the project and its objectives.
The GrEEn Project is a four-year project supported by the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa , the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana and implemented by UNCDF and SNV. The project aims at creating greater economic and employment opportunities for youth, women and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable, green businesses. GrEEn is funded under the European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa and will be implemented in coordination with the Ghanaian Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and other relevant ministries, alongside the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies of the two focal regions: Ashanti and Western regions. The project has been virtually launched in May 2020 during the Europe Week. Watch the promo video here.
With the aim of creating 5,000 jobs by 2023, SNV and UNCDF are already implementing activities in the two targeted regions, with the support of local authorities, communities, and the private sector. In order to achieve these promising objectives, with a total contribution of EUR 20,600,000 from EUTF, SNV and UNCDF, the GrEEn project will use a combination of financial support, performance-based grants, access to finance, technical assistance and skills development to promote and support the growth of climate resilient local economies in two regions in Ghana.
Due to the current circumstance related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the events will be closed to a limited number of participants. However, the launch events will be broadcasted live on the UNCDF social media channels for all interested in the project. Online and offline media campaigns have also been conducted to raise awareness and reach the targeted groups on the potential of the project and the different opportunities of this initiative.
Stay tuned to UNCDF on 22nd and 24th September and do not to miss the launch! You can follow the event and latest updates about the project through the hashtags #GrEEnProject. Let’s go GrEEn!
