UNCDF Being Referred to as the "Silicon Valley" of the United Nations by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs for The Gambia
UNCDF was honored to be referred to by His Excellency, Seedy Keita, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, as the "Silicon Valley" of the United Nations.
UNCDF has been present in The Gambia since 2018, improving the accessibility of financial services for low-income population in urban and rural areas and building local governments resilience to climate change and strengthening their fiscal space to deliver services.
A critical work stream for UNCDF in The Gambia is our Inclusive Digital Economies work to drive innovation in finance for development, financial inclusion and financial health.

Sweden commits US$ 19 Million to Finance Adaptation in Climate Vulnerable Mozambique, with UNCDF
The Government of Sweden has signed an agreement to deliver US$19 million over five years in climate finance to Mozambique, one of the most climate-vulnerable nations in the world, to expand its support to the Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility (LoCAL)--a country-owned mechanism for channelling climate finance to local government authorities for locally led adaptation.
The LoCAL Facility provides a country-owned mechanism for channelling climate finance to local government authorities for locally led adaptation and is presently being implemented or designed for implementation in 34 countries across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Pacific.
The Netherlands Returns to UNCDF as a Core Funder for the First Time After 20 Years
UNCDF extends its deepest thanks to The Netherlands for returning to the organization as a core funder. UNCDF uses core funding to catalyze finance for the least developed countries, as well as to realize the Doha Programme of Action.
UNCDF is doing what it needs to do in places where very few want to go with an impact that matters for people that matter. And so for me, it's a real pleasure to announce that we are coming to you (LDCs) and UNCDF as a core donor, and we will be contributing 3 million over the coming years.
Mourad Wahba on the Importance of Catalyzing Finance to Realize the Doha Programme of Action in the Gulf Times
Mourad Wahba penned a piece for the Gulf Times--pegged to the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Marshall Plan—that outlines the importance of public finance to catalyzing the necessary private capital that will make the Doha Programme of Action a reality.
The 5th Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which is being hosted by Qatar, has gathered leaders from the multilateral, public and private sectors to raise resources and cement partnerships to fully implement the Doha Programme of Action — the UN action plan representing a new generation of renewed and strengthened commitments grounded in bringing about sustainable development for the 46 least developed countries (LDCs). If any high-level convening warrants a clear-eyed, technical assessment of the Marshall Plan, it’s the LDC5, especially to unearth an important, if overlooked, lesson.
