Countries across the world are coming together through the Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility, a mechanism for channelling climate finance to communities for locally led adaptation to climate change. Designed and managed by the UN Capital Development Fund, LoCAL has mobilised over US$ 150 million for adaptation to date, financing a cumulative total of 2,103 investments that make a transformative and positive impact on people’s lives every day.
Last week in the Belgian capital Brussels, representatives from 35 countries shared experience and forged alliances towards boosting access to finance for adaptation, at the 10th Annual LoCAL Board. While 16 ministers and some eight high-level representatives from over 20 LoCAL member countries gathered for the LoCAL Ministerial Meeting. The gatherings were an opportunity for reflecting on a decade of LoCAL results and forging a path for coordinated and ambitious scale-up, so more communities can benefit from adaptation investments with LoCAL.
This new LoCAL video, shown for the first-time last week, captures the diverse range of investments delivered with funds delivered through the LoCAL mechanism. Grants are channelled to local government authorities who work with their communities to identify resilience-building projects that best meet community needs – whether that be a bridge in Bhutan or a solar irrigation system in Benin.
