The Smart Green ASEAN Cities (SGAC) program, funded by the European Union, organized a 3-day City Window Series (CWS) event in Banyumas, Indonesia from September 12-14, 2023. The event was co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Banyumas Regency, UNCDF, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Global Cities Alliance.

The CWS brought together around 120 participants from ASEAN countries, EU cities, and other partners. The goal was to share lessons and ideas on financing frameworks and actions for sustainable urban development in ASEAN cities.

Speakers included representatives from the EU delegation to ASEAN, the Indonesian Ministry of Environment, Banyumas Regency, and UNCDF. They highlighted the importance of partnership between ASEAN and the EU on climate change and sustainable city initiatives.

The CWS featured knowledge exchange between ASEAN cities and EU cities on topics like waste management, renewable energy, and digital innovation. Indonesian cities shared their experiences implementing sustainable waste management systems.

Representatives from the private sector and financial institutions also attended to discuss public-private partnerships and financial structures to support investment in smart green city projects.

The CWS provided an opportunity for cities to learn from each other and develop proposals for future support from the SGAC program on innovative sustainable urban development project.
