Dar es Salaam, May 08, 2024, The EU-funded CookFund programme which is being implemented by UNCDF is committed to supporting Tanzania's clean cooking transition.

Mr. Imanuel Muro, CookFund's Programme Manager, said, 'Our partnership and engagement with the government of Tanzania and other stakeholders underscores our shared commitment to sustainable development and creating a healthier environment for all Tanzanians.'

The Fund manager highlighted this commitment following the unveiling of the National Clean Cooking Strategy on May 8, 2024, in Dar es Salaam by H.E. President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Spanning a decade from 2024 to 2034, this strategic initiative represents a comprehensive approach to transitioning from traditional cooking practices, such as biomass, to cleaner, sustainable, and greener solutions nationwide.

As key partners in this initiative, the EU and UNCDF through CookFund has played an important role in providing essential financial support, technical expertise, and capacity-building opportunities to enterprises. The programme is currently in its third year of implementation, having allocated funds to address the private sector undercapitalizing, product and service availability and end-user affordability. The next intervention is nation-wide awareness campaign including behavioral change. By leveraging these ongoing initiatives, specifically supporting the private sector to stimulate the lower end of demand side, Tanzania is poised to expedite the adoption of clean cooking technologies and practices to achieve 80% target. This strategic approach not only aims to reduce indoor air pollution and mitigate environmental degradation but also holds the potential to significantly enhance public health outcomes nationwide.

“The launch of the National Clean Cooking Strategy represents a significant step forward in Tanzania's efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals. The CookFund Programme is set to accelerate this journey of transition and support Tanzania in building a cleaner, more sustainable future for future generations." Muro concluded.
