Building the evidence base for policies that promote sustainable development, food and nutrition security and poverty reduction
FAO is developing a programme of work that will provide evidence on the diversity and the determinants of the pathways of rural transformation and patterns of agricultural and food system transitions in a context of accelerated urbanization and increased pressure on natural resources.
Enhanced food security and nutritional status of target population through more effective and resilient Local Food Systems.
The western African context of the last decade was marked by an increased interest in local cross-border cooperation initiatives by states and regional integration organizations, supported by plea action of non-governmental organization and partners. Since then, steps have been taken to institutionalize cross-border issues and the standing of international and Pan-African organizations that promote cross-border cooperation.
UNCDF, within the framework of its Local Cross-border Initiatives program (LOBI), and in collaboration with the Municipality of Dori, will strengthen cross-border economic cooperation through concrete support to the livestock sector in the municipalities of the IIRSahel cross-border zone.
Food and Nutrition Security is a central objective of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2015 agenda. In this framework UNCDF aims to enhance food security and nutrition in the Least Developed Countries through a renewed programmatic approach to finance local development, which includes the development of the Global Finance for Food called F4F. The F4F is conceived to provide solutions for localized food and nutritional insecurity through an increase in public, public-private and community investments through decentralized government structures, systems and processes.
For UNCDF, household food insecurity is about more than the absence of food; it is the result of a complex system of vulnerability factors in relation to shocks that destabilize local livelihoods.
Along with the FAO, UNCDF participated in the 10th OECD Rural Development Conference where it presented its approach to local food security systems. This approach is aligned with other innovative initiatives which aim to promote a territorial angle to food security related issues.
