UNCDF has been actively supporting the de-concentration and decentralization efforts of the Government of Lao PDR for over a decade. The National Governance and Pubic Administrative Reform Programme (NGPAR) is a multifaceted approach that has been adopted by the Government of Lao PDR, which consists of four interlinked projects.
The Honourable Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship and of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Mothetjoa Metsing, officially announced and handed over the first discretionary Performance Based Local Development Grant (LDG) and Capacity Building Grant (CBG) to all the 10 District Councils and Maseru City Council on Friday 18th July 2014. The Councils also received certificates of participation in the 2014 Annual Assessment on minimum conditions to access the LDG. The event was attended by over 150 participants, including the Hon.
Since 2012, UNCDF is partnering with The Hague Academy to offer training programmes that address theory, practice and insights from various regional contexts. Today, The Hague Academy and UNCDF jointly develop course curricula based on UNCDF field experience, counting with the hands-on expertise from UNCDF staff as trainers. In addition, this partnership allows government officials, civil servants and practitioners from the LDCs to receive special rates when they sign-up for any of these courses.
