You are invited to join us for an informative and participatory workshop that will reveal key insights regarding financial access and agency issues of women’s and girls’ as they affect their economic empowerment.
The aim of this workshop is share and validate Ethiopia country assessment findings and insights on the key constraints and enablers of women’s and girls’ access to, usage of and control over finance across supply, demand and the enabling environment, as well as the cross-cutting socio-cultural context. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect on the prioritized recommendations and potential partnerships to implement those recommendations.
Country insights emerged using UNCDF’s “Country Assessment Toolkit on Access and Agency of Women and Girls” developed with the assistance of Dalberg Development Advisors and with funding provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, SIDA, and other funders.
The results of the discussions will be used to contribute to the final design of UNCDF’s gender strategy in Ethiopia to be implemented in Ethiopia beginning in 2018. It will also inform UNCDF’s global strategy, “Participation of Women in the Economy Realized (PoWER), which will support implementation in Ethiopia and other selected countries.

Workshop Objectives
The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) has developed a global strategy on women’s economic empowerment, the Participation of Women in the Economy Realized (PoWER) and a comprehensive country assessment toolkit to support the implementation of the strategy. The aim of this workshop is to share and validate the Ethiopia country assessment findings and insights on the key constraints and enablers of women’s and girls’ access to, usage of and control over finance across the supply, demand and the enabling environment key spheres of influence and the cross-cutting socio-cultural context. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect on the prioritized recommendations and potential partnerships to implement those recommendations.
Workshop participants
40-50 participants from multiple stakeholder groups including financial service providers, mobile money providers, and other private sector players, including business associations; policymakers, regulators, and line ministries; civil society organizations working on gender, youth, and empowerment issues; financial inclusion and gender researchers; and bilateral and multilateral development agencies.
