
Pierre Pascal Bardoux-Chesneau is the Director of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), based in Geneva, Switzerland. A French national, he brings over two decades of expertise in climate finance, conservation, and international development, with a focus on mobilizing action from governmental institutions, development actors, and private sector investors.
In his role as Director of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) he has spearheaded the development of a catalytic blended finance model, which has mobilized over $250 million in public and private resources since its launch in late 2020. The GFCR is now the largest global financial instrument dedicated to Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, addressing marine ecosystem protection and sustainable blue economies.
Previously, Pierre served as Senior Portfolio Manager at the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, where he established and managed a portfolio of climate and environmental trust funds focused on ocean and forest conservation, with a total value exceeding $2.5 billion. Earlier in his career, Pierre held various roles with UNDP Country Offices, UN Peacekeeping Operations, and the International Crisis Group in Central Africa, gaining deep operational knowledge in high-risk and complex environments.
